Alliance Party President Victor Billot says politicians are grabbing a fat pay increase, while striking health workers are bearing the brunt of employer and media attacks.
Senior members of Parliament are getting pay increases of between 4% and 8.1%, backdated to July, it was announced this week.
In the same week, health workers on strike for modest wage increases have been attacked by senior managers and doctors for endangering patients – yet the “Labour” Government stands back and refuses to get involved. Read the rest of this entry »

The Alliance Party has backed striking medical staff saying that they are committed and responsible health workers who have been taken advantage of for too long.
Alliance Party President Victor Billot says the health workers have been subject to a media smear campaign.
“The medical workers involved in these industrial actions are people who have worked for many years in the public health system, and deserve the support and respect of all fair-minded New Zealanders.”

The resignation of Don Brash is not surprising, but there is no point celebrating, says the Alliance.
Alliance Party President Victor Billot says people should focus on what National would do if re-elected, rather than paying too much attention to the recent clown show amongst their leadership.
“Who is pulling the strings of the National Party? They are backed by shadowy cults, big money and a small, self-interested elite who are raking it in from a system that is destroying the global environment and undermining a democratic society. The Alliance Party has joined the growing numbers demanding the Government withdraw New Zealand troops and police from Tonga.
Alliance Party Foreign Affairs spokesman Paul Piesse says it is nonsense for the Prime Minister to say she supports democracy in Tonga, while at the same time sending in “enforcers” to keep anti-democratic forces in power. Read the rest of this entry »

The Alliance Party came out of its 2006 Conference with a question for New Zealanders.
“They will spend our money on a luxury football stadium. We will spend our money on insulating New Zealand homes and ensuring our families can live in healthy and affordable homes. What do you think is the right priority?”
Alliance Party members from around New Zealand gathered in Wellington over the weekend of Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 November to discuss their progress in “rebuilding and revitalizing” their party.
