The Alliance Party says the John Key speech on the “underclass” in Burnside yesterday was a “pile of public relations tripe.”
Alliance President Victor Billot says “When it comes to the Nats, judge them by what they do, not what they say.”
“The simple fact is the underclass in New Zealand is a direct result of immoral, right-wing policies of the type that National and Labour Government’s introduced over the 1980s and 1990s. Frankly, it is sickening to watch the creepy moralizing now after what they did.”

The Alliance Party says a capital gains tax could help people priced out of the overheated property market.
“A capital gains tax on all but the family home would be a significant step to make buying a house more affordable in the medium term,” says Alliance tax spokesperson Professor Jim Flynn.

The Alliance Party says young and lower-income people are being slammed by out of control property prices.
Alliance Party President Victor Billot says that a recent report by Massey University shows houses are less affordable now than when studies began in 1989. Affordability of housing has been dropping for the last 4.5 years, according to the Massey University Property Foundation study, as housing prices rose faster than wages.
